Who is Vera?

Born in Breda, grew up in Dorst and moved to Oosterhout over 30 years ago, where I still live with my 2 boys aged 17 and 19.

My big hobby is making music in a carnival band, unfortunately making music in a group has been on hold for over a year due to Covid-19.

In 1976, I started on the flugelhorn in the newly formed youth orchestra in Dorst. After that, I tried trombone for a while and then switched to bass. Meanwhile, I have been playing baritone with a carnival band from Oosterhout for over 30 years. In my spare time, I have also taught at various carnival bands.

I read a lot and prefer medical and psychological thrillers. Funnily enough, my children are not readers at all.

I am a huge Formula 1 fan; I stay at home for it, watch everything and read everything written about it. I also really enjoy watching sports from curling and cycling to rugby, cricket, ice skating and football.

How did you end up at Hanko?

Before this, I worked at an installation company in Oosterhout, which went bankrupt. 12.5 years ago, I saw a vacancy in the newspaper. And after a good interview, I first started working 2 days a week and have been working 4 days for years now.

What is your job title at Hanko?

I work in financial administration and basically deal with everything that comes with it such as accounts receivable management, booking purchase invoices, (co-)executing payments, processing sales invoices, ordering office supplies and (very important) the coffee.

What makes the work so fun for you?

It is very varied and also the colleagues are a big plus! Everyone is always willing to help or assist even if they are busy. You can always drop in on anyone, tell them your story. I also love the hectic pace, always working hard to be ready on time. Lots of things in between, sorting things out and solving them. Besides, it is a real man's world and I feel at home there.

What is your strength?

Switching quickly, never saying no and always being there for someone else.

What does the Hanko Family mean to you?

Contact with everyone is important. That you can always go to anyone, everyone is there for you and is (almost) always in a good mood.

New colleagues usually feel at home very quickly. Everyone is a cog within Hanko, we are all important to be able to live up to our slogan "dedication for insulation" every day.

What does Dedication for Insulation mean to you?

For many people, of course, insulation and board materials are not really sexy materials. But some rolls and boards I genuinely find very beautiful. I regularly go into the warehouse to look at products. I find it very important to be well informed about our products and what is going on in the market. I am also very curious and if I don't know a product on an invoice I always go and ask what it is.
