Who is Sjoerd?

I am 30 years old, born and raised in Breda, where I live with my girlfriend Claire. Besides working enthusiastically in the business with my brother and father, I love to play sports, including fitness and tennis. I also love sailing on the water.

I also really enjoy going out to eat somewhere or going on a city-trip in my spare time.

How did you end up at Hanko?

As Marijn's son, when I was fourteen I always worked as a holiday worker during the summer, especially in the warehouse. In those days, I already gained a lot of material knowledge. The product range did expand a lot in the following years, especially the insulation products (Knauf / Paroc). After my studies and a number of internships with HANKO manufacturers, I joined the company full-time at the age of 24. During my studies, it was already a conscious choice to work in Marijn's company. This was a personal choice because I saw and still see a lot of growth opportunities in this industry!

What is your position at Hanko?

As sales manager, together with Hans van Gastel, our commercial director, I am responsible for the sales team. The sales team currently consists of 13 people. The fun part is coaching and supporting the team in a positive way. And, of course, to convey our 'Dedication for Insulation' in the right way to our customers.

Apart from that, I am of course also very much involved with the company together with my brother and father (Marijn). Operational matters and purchasing (anno 2021) are very important at the moment.

What makes the work so fun for you?

For me, the most fun remains the direct contact with customers.

I see many of the relationships with my customers as true friendships. They are worth a lot, both for me and for Hanko. That the customer fully trusts you to take care of them.

Where does your strength lie?

The commitment to the customers and the team. The flexibility and quick switching, which means I will always find a solution for our customers.

What does the Hanko Family mean to you?

This means a lot to me! We have to pull it off together with the Hanko family every year! To deliver to the customers on time all the projects for which we may take care of the materials.

Having fun at work is the most important thing! We have a lot of laughs but also a lot of hard work, which I really respect. Every facet is equally important here. Whether it is purchasing, administration, logistics, marketing or sales; every branch is equally important in this.

What does Dedication for Insulation mean to you?

'Dedication for Insulation' means to me: being involved with our customers. Being reachable for them, being ready and always helping them. We do this together with the Hanko family!
